When Mellow, a 13-year-old pup, passed away, he left his Dad Chris Downs, Mom Katie Downs, and human brother Leo very sad. Mellow had been very close to the family and was an amazing pup who protected his family. He often spent a lot of time with Leo.
After Mellow passed, the Downs decided not to get another dog for a little while – something that didn’t sit well with Leo, who wanted another pup. For months and mother, Leo begged and begged, and the Downs slowly began to come around to the idea as they healed from their loss.
Katie began looking around for a potential new pup. That’s when she saw Nutty-Buddy, a pit bull mix who was the spitting image of Mellow and only 9 weeks old. She showed Chris, and he was excited, too, so they sent in an adoption application. They decided to surprise Leo with this new furry family member.
So, one day, the parents took their son to the Stray Rescue of St. Louis, saying they were going to donate supplies. Staff had their phones at the ready to record what happened next. When Leo wandered around near the front desk, little Nutty-Buddy was brought out – and Leo couldn’t believe his eyes.
Leo was soon crying tears of joy as he cuddled the young puppy for the first time. The touching footage of this meeting was posted on Facebook, and many people couldn’t help shedding a few tears as they watched the two new best friends solidify a beautiful family relationship.
Now, Leo and Nutty-Buddy are inseparable. They play together, snuggle around, and can’t wait for the pup to be old enough to sleep with Leo in bed!
It’s safe to say that Leo is glad his begging finally paid off!
