When Sanford was first rescued by animal control in April, he was in terrible shape. A bullet wound in one of his hind legs was causing him severe pain, and to top it all off, he had just been hit by a car.
Sanford was hurried to a Dallas municipal shelter, but they didn’t have enough resources to give him the care he needed. Everyone who saw him thought he looked like he was completely physically broken – and maybe even mentally broken. He acted tired and depressed and looked like he had given up.
Luckily, a Dallas DogRRR volunteer chanced upon the pup and realized he needed help. But even with the new attention, the pup simply didn’t act like he was alive. That is, until he moved into a foster home with experienced foster parent Karen Velazquez.
Sanford entered his temporary home a few days after receiving hospital treatment. The transformation was instant. It was like he knew, as soon as he stepped into the house, that he would be safe here.
Since then, Sanford has thrived more and more. In all 52 pups she’s fostered, Velazquez has never met a dog who smiles quite as much! He’s the happiest pup she’s ever seen – a far cry from the “broken” pup he was when he was first rescued.
Today, the 10-year-old but young at heart pup is eagerly enjoying daily walks, pup playtime with foster siblings, and delicious home-cooked food. He’s also patiently awaiting his forever home! If you’d like to adopt this happy, sweet pup, reach out to the Dallas DogRRR here.
