When a dog has lots of excess energy, they can become bored and wreak havoc everywhere. That’s why a tired dog is often a well-behaved one! But how can you tire your dog out so that they don’t start tearing up the house?
Here are four ideas:
A Game Of Fetch
Fetch is a dog’s favorite game, and as long as you a little space, you can play this game with them – especially for dogs with natural retrieving instincts. If your dog hasn’t learned fetch yet, you can teach them with the Come command.
Tug-of-War
If your dog doesn’t display dominance aggression, tug-of-war is a great game to burn their energy. They need to use their whole bodies and lots of strength to fight a human’s ability, after all!
Agility Course Training
Training over a complex course teaches a dog to use their mental and physical prowess. Don’t have an agility course? Sign up for a class, make one out of things you already have at home, or just engage in a healthy amount of training to get your dog moving.
Swimming
Swimming is a very high-energy exercise, so let your dog swim in a natural body of water or swimming pool (as long as you thoroughly wipe them down after!). You can also turn on the sprinklers and get your dog jumping!
