No dog owner wants their dogs to feel stressed out. But many of us do things that could cause a dog some degree of stress without even realizing it! Here are 7 things that may cause a dog to feel stressed out.
Personal Space Invasion
Sure, your dog may tolerate it, but most dogs don’t like being hugged or having another face shoved next to theirs.
Car Rides
Yes, yes, most dogs love these rides. But there is also a good number that doesn’t, and that finds them to be frightening. Don’t force your dog to come riding with you!
New Things
New people? New environment? It’s probably going to stress a dog out.
Staring
Staring is a challenge to a dog, saying that you’re asserting your dominance over them. If you’re not recognized as the “Alpha”, it can stress a dog out.
Leash Tugging
Dogs want to sniff the world around them. Pulling on their leash to stop them may stress them out. Teach them to heel instead.
Saying No Again and Again
Just saying no to a dog who really wants something is just going to confuse them. Show them an alternative instead.
Scolding
Pointing or shaking your finger at your dog while berating them in a serious tone will stress them out. Remember, positive reinforcement works best on dogs.
