Cancer can develop in dogs, just like it develops in humans. But you can reduce cancer risk by keeping your dog away from certain carcinogens.
Here are 8 products that can cause cancer in dogs:
Aflatoxin
This toxin is known to cause cancer and is the reason for recalls in almost all US states. It comes from mold and can be poisonous, and yet it is often used in their treats.
Blue Dye
Blue 1 and Blue 2 increase the risk of cancer in animals. Luckily, most dog treats and foods don’t use blue dye, but some of them will, so avoid them.
Glyphosate
This pesticide isn’t great for humans or dogs. It can lead to DNA mutations and damage, cancer, and disease.
Ethoxyquin
This preservative is known for increasing cancer risk, and even humans who work with it experience severe consequences like infertility, blindness, and immune deficiency.
Vaccines
Vaccines themselves are important. Over-vaccination, however, can be so dangerous it causes cancer. Don’t make your dog get more vaccinations than needed.
Tick and Flea Prevention
Most of the preventative care products for fleas and ticks are pretty decent. Unfortunately, some people apply them too often all through the year instead of just during the right seasons. This exposes dogs to cancer risks.
Tobacco Smoke
Smoking around your dog can severely harm their health and lead to cancer
Laundry Products
Detergent, dryer sheets, softeners, and other similar products often contain small amounts of carcinogens, which aren’t harmful in the tiny doses we’re usually exposed to. Still, you should keep them away from your dog!
