Here's What You Should Do When You See Animal Cruelty

We all want to help stop animal cruelty when we see it. What else can you do?

What’s Going On?

Here’s some other signs you should keep an eye out for:

  • Collar digging into the neck.
  • Unusually skinny or emancipated.
  • No shelter.
  • Mange
  • Filthy and matted fur
  • Wounds or injuries

Gather Evidence

As soon as you have reasonable suspicion, start collecting evidence. Creating a written statement with backing videos, photos, and timestamps will help.

Contact The Authorities

Look into reporting this to the appropriate authorities, depending on your local county. Some police departments may also have units specifically for animal abuse. If violence is already in progress, 911 may be your best bet.

Let the Investigation Run Its Course

Understand that investigations can take time, and usually don’t produce visible progress for ages. Most of the time, officials aren’t able to let you in on the details either. In the meantime, consider trying to educate the owner – perhaps it was just all ignorance.

Do not take matters into your own hands – it can get you on the wrong side of the law.

Educate Others

Oftentimes, people aren’t intentionally malicious. Spreading awareness and proper knowledge can often just be the solution to curbing a lot of these cases of animal abuse. Familiarizing yourself with animal laws and campaigning for them can also be something you can do to help!
