TaterTot the pit bull is a hero and it all started before he even had a family.
In fact, TaterTot’s bio says he “was on death row at Minneapolis Animal Care & Control when at the last minute, Ruff Start Rescue (MN) stepped up and pulled him from the shelter.”
From there, the Smith family brought him into their home as a foster dog and it’s a good thing they did. During his very first week staying with them, he saved a little boy’s life.
The little boy’s mom, Christi Smith recalls that on the 4th night saying with them TaterTot barked and whimpered in the middle of the night and kept pacing between her and her son Peyton’s room. Some may have dismissed this as TaterTot just having a hard time settling in to his new environment, but Smith went to check on Peyton and found he was incoherent and barely breathing. A trip to the emergency room confirmed that the boy’s blood sugar was dangerously low. Amazingly, veterinarian Isis Sanchez said that TaterTot’s sharp sense of smell helped him sense Peyton’s shift in body chemistry. Peyton’s mom credits TaterTot with saving her son’s life.
“I am never going to let this dog go, I owe him for the rest of his life.” his new mom told Pioneer Press.
Needless to say, TaterTot’s heroic move got him his forever home. Please share his amazing story to help show the world what pit bulls are capable of!
