Life is full of unexpected twists and turns, and Chris Garrison could not predict that rescuing his dog, Amaretto, six months ago would lead to another rescue.
It was an ordinary day, and Chris and Amaretto were out for exercise in Ohio. It was on their usual forest trail, and Amaretto ran alongside Chris’ bike, enjoying the sounds, sights, and smells of nature.
Out of the blue, Amaretto halted, seemingly distracted by something off the trail. This made Chris stop, and wonder what was happening. They were both still and heard faint meowing coming from their left. They made their way towards the sound, and there they found a kitten, stuck 8 feet up a tree.
Who knows how the kitten managed to get up there? They just knew they had to do something since the trail was so lonely. They rescued the kitten, and she immediately started purring. Chris also noticed there were no other cats around. She was used to being with a human, and it was clear she was abandoned in the woods to die.
If it wasn’t for Amaretto, he’d have no clue the kitten was there. He’d have ridden by so quickly without notice. They took the kitten back to the truck, and Amaretto watched over her until they got to the shelter.
Her name was Fuji, and she was examined at the Licking County Humane Society. She was not microchipped, so they knew she needed a home. They made this known, and soon, she will be put in the care of persons who will love and care for her forever.
This is all thanks to Amaretto’s attentiveness and sharp senses. What a hero!
