How To Create A Schedule For A New Puppy

When deciding whether to get a puppy, keep in mind that you will need to establish a routine for them. And creating that routine isn’t as easy as it seems. If you don’t start enforcing it from the first few weeks, you might never be able to.

The first few days after the puppy comes home are going to be spent helping them adjust to their new life. Establishing a routine will make them adapt faster to all the new changes.

One of the first things you have to schedule is potty breaks. You want to teach them how to potty as soon as possible. If they know that every hour they are taken outside specifically to potty, they will learn faster. You also need to decide when and how often you’ll feed them, and when they have water breaks. Give them the first meal right after the first potty break. While training, you might want to stop giving them water after dinner so that they don’t need to potty as often at night. Otherwise, make sure they always have water.

Make time daily for socialization. For example, take your pup to the park for about an hour every day, and let them play with other dogs. But walks and playing with toys at home also fit in this category. Remember, to prevent social anxiety you also have to schedule alone time for the pup. About an hour per day does the trick.

When you start training, you want to start small. Take around 20 minutes daily and practice easy tricks, like sit. Make sure you give them treats when they get it right. After all this work, your pup will need nap time. Make sure you schedule all these activities in your puppy’s daily routine, and you’ll be rewarded with a happy, well-mannered companion.
