Is It Safe To Feed Your Dog Black Pepper?

It can be hard to resist the temptation of sharing some of your meal with your dog, especially when they are staring with angelic eyes. However, bear in mind that many of your food contains seasonings that may have potential health risks for your dog.

Black pepper is an ingredient added to dishes to give them a kick that appeals to people who love spicy food. While you may love and enjoy all things spicy, your pup may not share your love of spicy food and doesn’t even need it because it doesn’t contain any valuable nutrients for dogs.

Dogs can eat foods that contain black pepper. However, it should be very moderate, as significant amounts can cause problems such as vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, or abdominal pain. Since the pepper won’t add any valuable nutrients to your dog, it would be best to skip it as they are not missing out on anything.

If your dog eats lots of black pepper and is having mild reactions, feeding them bland food such as boiled chicken, plain pasta, white fish, etc., for a few days could help settle their stomach. However, if your dog is severely sick to the point where they cannot keep food or water down, you should speak to your veterinarian immediately for medical attention.
