Play-Doh is a widely popular children’s toy that has been around since the 1950s. Dogs are attracted to it due to its smell, color, and texture.
If your dog ate some of your children’s Play-Doh, the first thing you should know is that you are not alone in this situation. Many dog parents with children who play with the toy have reported cases of their dogs eating it.
Play-Doh consists mainly of water, salt, and flour. Some products may include fragrances, preservatives, petroleum products, and colorings. The ingredients used in making your children’s Play-Doh determine whether it is harmful to your dog or not. Ingredients such as salt, and cream of tartar (usually found in homemade Play-Doh), can be toxic for your dog, especially if eaten in large quantities.
Usually, most dogs won’t fall ill if they eat a little of Play-Doh because its major ingredients (water, salt, and flour) are harmless.
If your dog ate Play-Doh, find out how much they ate and the ingredients used in making the product. Afterward, contact your vet and relay the information you have gathered so they can assess whether there is a possibility for your dog to become sick and formulate a treatment for you if necessary.
