If you have a bigger dog with a deeper chest, you may be terrified of losing your dog to bloat. And since bloat is generally caused by gas, it’s pretty hard to not jump every time your dog decided to belch or burp.
Thankfully, burping is actually pretty normal for dogs – just like it is for humans! And just like with some humans, your dog might burp a lot more than usual due to a variety of reasons. Usually, diet changes, human food, and medical allergies can cause lots of gas – so there’s no need to worry.
However, if you notice this burping occurring after your dogs drink water, then you might have a situation on your hands. If that’s happening, or the burping is excessive, you may be dealing with bloat – a very dangerous condition that can go downhill in a blink of an eye.
Alternatively, if your dog is passing gas instead on an excessive level, it may be a symptom of other issues instead – especially if the smell is foul. Consider bringing them to the vet to check for intestinal parasites or inflammatory bowel diseases.
In the end, however, you shouldn’t have to worry if your dog burps once or twice. It’s perfectly normal and natural!
