Unlike us humans, many animals have an innate knowledge of how to swim so they can travel and protect themselves. (We dropped that instinctive lizard-brain know-how in favor of more space for our higher-functioning bits.)
This doesn’t mean that they will be aware of this fact from the get-go, however!
As this video quickly proves, you need to get them comfortable with the water first! Labrador Retrievers are pups that naturally take to the water, but it’s clear that Mom has to teach her adorable litter how to jump in first. Just look at all these puppies on the edge of the lake, wanting to follow her!
While Mom is having the time of her life, her puppies are fretting about on the water’s edge. They want to join her – but can they truly make it? Will they be safe? Eventually, some of the braver ones decide to give it a try, and off they go into the water one by one!
