One man recently took to Reddit to report a rather unusual situation in his relationship – he was jealous of his girlfriend's dog. According to him, his girlfriend threw a more elaborate birthday party for her dog than she did for him.
He wrote on Reddit's "Relationship Advice" sub, "We've been together for 2 years and each year, she hasn't typically been able to get me anything due to financial reasons. While disappointing, I always understood and don't necessarily expect anything on my birthday regardless."
He explained that his girlfriend adopted a dog about a year ago, and the dog's birthday was only a few weeks after his birthday. On his birthday, his girlfriend got him a stuffed animal even though he had told her in the past that he didn't like stuffed animals. However, his girlfriend spent "close to $100" on pet toys, dog supplies, homemade dog cake, and dog clothes on her dog's birthday.
"Seeing how much she spent on her dog also made what she spent on my gift seem pretty cheap in comparison. I don't know if I'm being shallow or overly sensitive but I'm feeling pretty hurt," the man wrote.
The post generated many reactions from Reddit users. While many agreed that dogs should be regarded as family members, they opined that his girlfriend prioritized her dog over him, which means that she loves the dog more.
