BJ Nemeth was travelling from Atlanta to his home in Alabama and stopped to get a beverage. He noticed a puppy lying beneath the vending machine as he walked up to him.
I found a stray dog living behind a Coke Vending Machine at a rest stop in Alabama (I-85 North, just East of Exit 42).

When I saw the hind legs sticking out, for a brief moment I thought it was @BriscoMutt. I had to do a double-take. pic.twitter.com/IuWeBBGFKl
Initially, BJ was concerned that the dog might be dead. He stated, in a conversation, "I took a picture on my phone so the flash would light up, and she just leaned up and looked right at me."
Somebody had left a styrofoam take-out container with water in it (the water appeared fresh & clean), so I bought him some Goldfish crackers at the vending machine.

That got him out to eat, but he still seemed untrusting if I got too close. pic.twitter.com/mo8wKHhNXq
The dog clearly needed help because BJ had stopped for a Coke in a rural place where there were no homes for miles in any direction. BJ figured someone must have dumped the dog by the side of the road. So, he assisted her into the backseat where she would have a comfortable place to rest as they rode off to Atlanta.
So this pup is safe and sound in my car and asleep in the back seat. I’ve been waiting to get on the highway so she could settle in and relax. (Hope she doesn’t get car sick.)

Okay, Twitter, what should we name her? 🙂 pic.twitter.com/sR9yZlVIKS
BJ was worried that Brisco, his dog at home, would not behave himself when they eventually got to Atlanta. Since Brisco isn't always good around other dogs, BJ had to keep both dogs apart. The next day, BJ took Soda-Pup to the vet for shots, spaying and treatment for minor wounds. The vet told BJ that the dog was about four years old.
This is the face Soda-Pup makes when she’s saying, “I know I just pooped, but I’m about to poop again. Can we go back to that privacy bush?”

Luckily I guessed correctly, and Soda-Pup pooped again in the bushes. In retrospect, the goldfish crackers may not have been my best idea. pic.twitter.com/bn5r2LRFvp
Although Soda-Pup gradually became comfortable with BJ, he had to find her a more appropriate home. Finally, he found a family friend, a widow in Dallas, Texas, who was more than happy to take Soda-Pup.
