Swimming is a great way for dogs to cool off on hot days, get some exercise, and have a little bit of fun, all at the same time. Although Labrador retrievers are known to enjoy being in the water because they were originally bred to fetch game from the water, one lab named Max has taken his love for water to another level.
Max is a yellow labrador retriever that is convinced he is a mermaid. Once the pup gets into the water, good luck getting him out! Max’s mum, Christine, told We Love Animals that the pup was rescued from his former parents who didn’t want him anymore after neglecting his health and allowing him to become severely overweight.
Christine's vet suggested that Max should take up swimming to lose weight. On his first dive into the water, Christine was worried that something was wrong, but she soon discovered that Max knew what he was doing.
"You see the legs sticking out and then the dog is gone. It's the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life," Christine explained.
Interestingly, Max is very selective about the water he swims in. The pup doesn't really like pools. Instead, he prefers swimming in natural bodies of water such as oceans, lakes, and ponds. Despite his love for swimming, he hates bathing.
