A pet owner’s worst nightmare is for their precious pup to be lost and never found. Unfortunately, this happens to millions of animals every year.
Even if your pet is indoor-only, there’s still the risk of them slipping away undetected! That’s why the best way to protect them from being lost is with an identifiable microchip.
You may say “Oh, but my pet has a collar and a name tag!” and yes, those can be helpful, but what happens if they get lost or become unreadable? The microchip is completely safe in that respect, as it’s injected under the skin and it can never be lost! And don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt your precious darlings at all – it’s similar to getting any other shot and the chip itself is about the same size as a grain of rice.
If you’ve adopted your pup from a shelter, or bought them from a breeder, they may already be microchipped. Check back with them – normally there’s just a small fee to change the details in the chip.
It’s your responsibility to make sure your details are correct. If a lost pet is found and taken to a shelter, they’re scanned for the chip. Chips are identified with a company and the company holds the details of the owner. Make sure you update your phone number and address with them regularly!
There’s no high costs when it comes to the safety and wellbeing of our wonderful pets. Share this story with your friends and if you haven’t done so already – microchip your pet!
