IVDD or intervertebral disc disease causes damage to the spinal cord. According to the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, it occurs when an intervertebral disc ruptures.
The rupture can cause two different types of damage – compression and concussion – to the spinal cord. If the damage is minor, the dog may only have a loss of coordination. Damage that is more significant can prevent the dog from walking or even moving their legs voluntarily.
Breeds that are more susceptible to IVDD include beagles, dachshunds, Lhasa Apso, and Pekinese. Dachshunds are the breed that most often experiences this condition. Molly, the dachshund in this video, suffered from IVDD – but her family isn’t letting that stop her from living life! Watch the video to find out more about IVDD. Molly is an active and happy dog thanks to her family and the new set of skis that she got! You go, girl!
