Overweight Beagle Rescue Striving To Become Healthy

Overweight Beagle Rescue Striving To Become Healthy

Winston was extremely overweight when he was rescued from an abusive home in Muskegon CountyRW;W;, Michigan, and placed at Pound Buddies Animal Shelter. The cute beagle weighed almost 100 pounds.

Michael and Karen Steinhelper fell in love with Winston the first time they met at the shelter. So they adopted him and made it their mission to help him get healthy. That was how Winston's weight loss journey began.

In August, Winston started physical therapy with Amy Barr-Tickle, a canine physical therapist. His routine included floor exercises and walks on an underwater treadmill at Four Paws Rehabilitation in Mt. Pleasant twice a week. Initially, the pup could only walk a few minutes, but with time and dedication, he got better.

Today, Winston can easily walk on the underwater treadmill for 12 minutes. Aside from the physical therapy and exercises, which ends with laser treatments and cooling down in an electromagnetic bed to help his joints, Winston is on a special diet and thyroid pills.

Since Winston started his weight loss journey, his results have been amazing. He has lost 20 pounds already and is on track to lose more in the coming months. His physical therapist hopes to get him to 45 pounds by next summer.

We're rooting for Winston and wishing him more success.
