Poor Pup Was Alone In Her Kennel For 400 Days So Loving Guy Moved In With Her

Things seemed to be looking up for Queen when she was rescued from a dumpster and brought to Great Plains SPCA. But then the 3-year-old terrier pup wound up unadopted and alone for more than 400 days.

Scott Poore, Mission Driven clothing brand founder, was heartbroken when he heard about what happened to Queen. His brand is dedicated to providing aid to shelter dogs, so it was no surprise that he, as an animal-lover, wanted desperately to help Queen out. He contacted the Great Plains SPCA and asked what he could do to help her find a home, but everything they suggested was also something they had tried before.

That’s when Poore had a fantastic and unusual idea. He decided that he would move into the shelter with Queen and live in her kennel until she was adopted. He was sure this would get the attention the pup needed! Great Plains SPCA was surprised at the suggestion, but they were eager to give the crazy idea a try.

Poore brought in a small desk and chair, bought the biggest dog bed he could find for himself, and picked up some cute pictures and a plant to decorate. He brought his suitcase in and unpacked, setting up a little calendar too. The kennel soon looked like a very small but quite cozy dorm room.

Queen was thrilled to have a roommate. She loved having Poore around, and she was so happy to have a human with her who was giving her love and affection. Visitors began to come to visit, some to see Queen, and some just to see Poore and wonder about his sanity, perhaps!

Originally, Poore planned to work at his laptop while in the kennel, but Queen always wanted to play tug-of-war and fetch until she tired herself out. Poore also learned that it’s never truly quiet inside a shelter. The lights turn off at night, but the place never sleeps – eventually, some pup will bark and make everyone else bark along! So Poore didn’t get a lot of rest, and he learned that the dogs don’t get much rest or peace, either.

After eight days of Poore living in the kennel (with a couple of hours of a break to shower and respond to emails), Queen found her forever home. It was a big challenge for Poore, but he knows it was worth it, and he would do it again!
