Salmonella contamination has been an unfortunate fixture of the dog food industry this month, with multiple products being recalled due to this suspected unwitting ingredient.
Yet another item was voluntarily rescinded recently, this time by the Carnivore Meat Company, from Green Bay, Wisconsin.
The company recalled its Vital Essentials Freeze-Dried Beef Nibblets Entrée for Dogs after contamination was discovered by the Michigan Department of Agriculture. One lot of these products with the lot number 13753 are affected, totalling 73 cases of the food, which were distributed among various United States retail outlets and sold on Amazon.com and Chewy.com.
Salmonella is a form of bacteria that most would have some knowledge about, and when consumed by dogs, can result in fevers, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, and blood in stools. In severe cases, it can lead to organ failure and other potentially fatal health complications.
While the product is a dog food, it is important to note that pup parents and other humans may also face negative consequences if they have come into contact with or handled the product without properly washing their hands afterwards.
If you, your dogs, or any members of your household begin to exhibit worrying symptoms, be sure to head to a vet or doctor as needed and bring up the possible salmonella contamination.
If you have purchased an affected product, you can request a full refund by returning unused products to Vital Essentials. Contact the company at 920-370-6542 for more information or if you have questions or concerns.
