102 cats and 36 dogs boarded a Flight To Freedom on October 19 from overcrowded shelters in Louisiana to Washington, where shelters are eager to accept them and give them loving homes. Valda, a dog saved from a terrible circumstance, is one of the lucky dogs.
After receiving two calls regarding a little dog living in appalling conditions, the Iberville Parish Animal Control and Shelter didn't waste any time responding. The shelter's director went to the location and was devastated to see a puppy living in a filthy kennel with only contaminated water to drink. The puppy, who had lost all of her fur owing to a severe skin disease, immediately lifted her head and wagged her tail when assistance arrived.
The dog's parent claimed she didn't have enough money to pay for her own medical care, let alone a puppy, and that she was trying to give the puppy away. The puppy was named Valda, meaning power, and was treated for mange and malnutrition.
Every month, at-risk cats and dogs are flown from overcrowded shelters to shelters in the North, where adopters welcome them. Thanks to the support of different people around the world, Valda and others like her are getting the second chance they deserve.
