Sidewalk Specials, a dog rescue organization in South Africa, often organizes Steri Drives, where they help families neuter and spay their dogs. Sadly, on many of these drives, they often come across dogs who need urgent rescuing.
Recently, the rescue was on their Steri Drive 8 when they came in contact with a four-year-old mama dog and her puppies that were abandoned in a cardboard box. The dogs' parents could no longer care for them after losing their job.
The mama dog, Sandy, suffered tick bite fever, while her puppies were covered in mange and parasites. The last time the dogs ate any food was unknown as they were visibly malnourished and weak. Sadly, one of the puppies passed away before rescuers arrived to take the dogs to Vet Point for medical attention.
Thankfully, the surviving dogs recovered fully after getting the necessary treatment. Rescuers then sent them to live with a foster, where Sandy learned to trust people and her puppies learned to play. The puppies were named Toffee, Smudge, and Peanut.
The dogs have come a long way from living in a cardboard box to living their best life. It took about five months before Sandy was adopted into a loving, forever home. Her pups have grown big and are happy as can be.
