Road Trip With Your Dog? Here's What You Need To Keep In Mind!

For most of us dog lovers, there is nothing greater than having our canine companion by our sides on all our adventures. We would love for them to experience the exhilaration and fantastic moments that we do.

Sometimes, we also find a need to take them to the vet or a new destination. All of these activities have one thing in common. They require your precious pooch to be transported in a car. This can be an uncomfortable experience for both you and your dog, but here are a few things you can do to make the process easier:

  • Plan ahead: make sure that the destination on the other side is ready to receive your canine companion. If it is a holiday, double-check that pets are allowed.
  • Do not leave them in the car alone: the temperatures inside a car change within seconds. We may leave the car feeling cool, but before you know it, the temperatures can become a health risk to your pooch. So, if you want to eat out, or have found your place of rest, bear in mind that your canine companion must be right at your side too.
  • Get your dog used to the car: it is important for us to remind ourselves that a new experience for our dogs can be rather frightening. Before embarking on a long journey, it is a good idea to get your dog used to the idea of a car ride. Take them on short trips and give them an opportunity to get used to the new sounds.
  • Pack a bag for your pooch too: once your luggage is packed, you should pack one for your dog too. This can include any of these regularly used and necessary items, as well as preparation for any unseen emergencies! Don’t forget his doggy bed, and poop bags too!
  • Feeding and frequent stops: don’t feed your dog just before the car ride, as this can lead to potty accidents or even nausea. It is also important to stop frequently so he can take a potty break and stretch his legs too.
