Sad Pup Gets The Surprise Of His Life After His Post Goes Viral On Facebook

The “Paws to Read” program, organized by White Bear Lake Library, pairs up children who are between the ages of 4 and 8 with trained therapy pups. The kids then happily read to the cuddly pups, who won’t judge them or laugh at them for misreading something or having difficulty with words.

Sting, a former racing dog, is one of these therapy pups. He loves spending time with children and listening to them, but one Wednesday, no one showed up to read to him. So his Dad, John Mullner, decided to encourage kids to come read to him by taking some pictures of the pup and posting them on Facebook. The photos clearly showed how sad and forlorn the pup was, with a long face and saddened, big puppy eyes.

The response was immediate! The post melted the hearts of countless people, was shared almost 100,000 times, and earned Sting several phone calls from kids wanting to read to him over the line. He was immediately booked all the way through April for readings, and his Dad is glad that the picture helped encourage lots of kids to practice their reading.

But the truth behind Sting’s sad expression? He always looks like that! It’s his default expression. But we won’t tell if you don’t, and as his Dad says, what’s a little lie if it gives kids the confidence and desire to read?
