Earl was neglected in a California shelter when Emma from the Northwest Dog Project noticed him. His back was bald, and it was obvious that he needed some care. So, Emma decided to free him from the shelter and take him to Eugene, Oregon, where the Northwest Dog Project is situated.
Emma and her colleagues worked with Earl to regain control of his health. Although Earl was joyful, he resisted eating because he was weak and thin. So they had to use a syringe to give him food.
It wasn't long before the Northwest Dog Project became aware of Earl's breathing difficulties. They rushed him to the veterinarian because he had an extremely bloated tummy, but later learned he had end-stage heart failure.
The veterinarian estimated his life expectancy at three weeks, but they weren't sure whether he would even make it through the night. Amazingly, Earl not only made it through the night, but his eyes started to sparkle brighter, and his demeanour started to change for the better. Earl gained weight and survived for an additional year!
In honour of Earl passing the one-year mark, The Northwest Dog Project shared on Facebook, "we don't know exactly what happened, but it was nothing short of a miracle."
Earl had a wonderful 16 months of life before he crossed over the rainbow bridge. The Northwest Dog Project reported that Earl passed away in March 2021.
