Abbey Karnes has been struggling with diabetes for a long time, so she decided to Darby, a diabetic alert dog, to be her companion. Darby’s job is to bring Abbey a juice when her blood sugar is low.

This is just a normal part of their daily life, so nothing should go wrong in this process. But it didn’t go according to plan. One day, Abbey asked Darby for a juice, as her blood sugar was getting low. The dog quickly complied. She ran to the kitchen and brought her the juice.

But she didn’t stop at one. She went to the kitchen again and brought Abbey another juice. And then another. Maybe Darby was just worried about her mom’s blood sugar. But if you dig a little deeper you might find that she had another reason for these shenanigans.

Darby knew that she would get treats when she brings her mom a juice. So, she was hoping that if she brings her more juices, she would get more treats. Still, she genuinely seemed worried about her mom’s health. After Darby gave her five juices, Abbey was able to convince her she was alright. So, the dog stopped going to the kitchen but stayed by her mom’s side in case she needed anything.
