Not only is it against the law to abandon a dog for any reason, but it is morally unacceptable. Unfortunately, shelters across the country still see people abandoning their dogs.
Staff at Greenville Humane Society met a pit bull mix tied to a pole when they arrived on Sunday. Someone left the dog named Remy outside the shelter with a handwritten note explaining they could no longer care for her because she was sick.
"She has illnesses I don't believe are fixable. She needs to be put down as soon as possible," the note read.
The rescue staff took Remy into the shelter and offered her food and water before getting a veterinarian to examine her.
The rescue shared on social media what they discovered after examining Remy. They wrote, "Unfortunately, it was determined that Remy is suffering from a grade six heart murmur, which is the most severe and can often be felt through the chest wall. This serious condition will require an echocardiogram, at minimum. Depending on what is found during the procedure, Remy may require surgery or a lifelong medication regimen."
The Greenville Humane Society is a no-kill shelter and is determined to get Remy the treatment she needs. However, they currently do not have sufficient funds because 96 other sick dogs are in their care. They have appealed to the public for donations to save Remy.
