Thai Sniffer Dogs Can Detect COVID-19 In Sweat With 95% Accuracy

There have been countless rumors going around since the start of the pandemic about dogs or cats being able to catch the virus, which has left countless people scared or worried for their safety.

In some countries, they don’t believe these rumors and have decided to take matters into their own hands. In Thailand, sniffer dogs have been started to be trained to sniff out the coronavirus. Some results from different tests have shown that these dogs are 95% accurate when encountering someone with this virus.

There have been countless studies with Labrador retrievers because they are thought to be the best dogs for this job. A test will consist of allowing each dog to take six seconds in order to sniff out the virus, and the results are tracked. The researchers have found that dogs do not need to directly sniff the people in question, but can actually tell results from sweat. Different countries are going about training these dogs differently, but Thailand is at the front end of it.

Scientists say that the next step to these trials is to put the dogs out into the public and put their skills to the test. In Asian countries, there are low numbers of the virus, and some believe that this would be the perfect place to really test out their methods. In other countries where numbers are higher, scientists are worried that the dogs won’t be able to sniff out the virus as easily as they were in the trials. Of course, no one will know the extent of the trained dog’s abilities until they are proven.
