The Reason Why Dogs are obsessed with Cat Food

You have probably witnessed this at one time or another. It is chowtime for the cat but the dog gets there first, devours the food and a fight ensues.

Dr. Zay Satchu, the chief veterinary officer at Bond Vet in New York explains why dogs find cat food so irresistible. He says:

“Cat food tends to be more fragrant than dog food, and that is a common reason it attracts Fido’s attention…”

Cats are fussy about their food; hence food companies came up with a strategy to entice them. They produce food that has enhanced flavor and odor. Hence, we cannot the dogs for going for it; not only does it smell great, but it also tastes remarkably good.

Will Eating Cat Food Harm the Dog?

Dr. Satchu goes on to explain the difference between the ingredients that are used in dog food and the ones included in recipes for cat food.

Cat food has Taurine in it, an amino acid that aids the digestion, vision, and other functions in cats. Dog food on the other hand does not contain this ingredient as dogs manufacture the amino acid internally.

Dr. Satchu concludes by saying:

“Long story short, it is not dangerous if Fido sneaks a nibble or two from Fluffy’s bowl,” “However, all that extra snacking can lead to some extra pounds, which isn’t great.

Hence, it’s best if your dog and cat stick to their designated bowls as they contain food specifically prepared with their unique needs in mind. This will also make for peace in the home.
