If it is enlarged, the food cannot move down as efficiently, which means the food may never actually get to the stomach! If the condition is severe enough, the dog (or cat) will not be able to hold their food down. Megaesophagus can be managed with the used of a special feeding chair. The chair holds the dog upright and allows gravity to help the food get down into the stomach!
