It’s really cute to see pictures of chubby animals on the internet, but the health problems associated with being overweight or obese is just as bad for our beloved pets as it is for us.
Kai the Golden Retriever weighed a horrifying 173 pounds when rescuers first found him. He was going to be put to sleep, due to the fact that he was struggling to get up. And it was easy to see why – the poor pup was more like a table with moving legs than he was a pooch. But after seeing just how much life he still had in him, the vet decided to not euthanize him.
Instead, Kai was put into the capable hands of a foster mom, who was given a challenge – Kai needed to lose at least a hundred pounds. It wasn’t an easy task, but a checkup a year later revealed that the experience was a success!
