When Jessica Banzhof went to a pet shop to quickly return some food, she hadn’t expected to fall in love with a little pit bull pup in an adorable sweater.
His name was Cupid, and he was there with Dogs on the Town, which is a program that brings shelter pups on outings to get attention from locals.
Banzhof was immediately in love with Cupid and really wanted to adopt him, especially for her kids, who had been wanting a big pup. Coincidentally, there were other adoption proceedings in the works in her home – her son, Gabe, aged 10, was going to be adopted legally by his stepdad, Banzhof’s husband.
Banzhof has been a single mother for a long time, and she and Gabe had been on their own for a long time. Then, she met her current husband, and he and his family consider Gabe family as much as any other blood-relative.
Seeing as Cupid had her smitten, Banzhof took her whole family – including their three little pups – meet the big pit bull, and they all got along so incredibly well. Banzhof sent in the adoption fee, but she and her family decided to sleep on it before finalizing anything.
Gabe’s adoption day rolled around and they headed to the courthouse. The judge confirmed with Gabe that he truly wanted this, and Gabe agreed 100%, saying that he’s always wanted to be part of a loving family that accepts, loves, and wants him. It was an emotional day as Gabe’s last name was changed to his stepdad’s.
After a meal to celebrate, Gabe said he wanted to go and grab their new pup. So off they went to the shelter, and the only person nearly as excited as Gabe was Cupid himself! It was a great double adoption!
