When senior dogs suddenly find themselves without homes, they often wind up on the streets or in crowded shelters, where they will be without a home for the rest of their lives.
When Valerie Reid’s father’s Doberman dog, a senior dog, was displaced when her father passed away, she decided she had to do something to help.
To honor her father’s passing, Reid decided to take a leap and open an amazing organization known as the Whispering Willows Retirement Dog Sanctuary. Right now, it houses 21 dogs who all receive unlimited naptimes and playtimes, and of course, crucial 6 am breakfasts.
The dogs there are so happy that you’d have a hard time believing their age and circumstances. All they know is love and happiness now, even though many come from difficult backgrounds.
For example, Faya was abused her whole life and left on a chain. Miss Annie was stuck in an apartment when her parent passed away. Jake was left to starve and beaten. Despite their sad stories, these dogs are doing amazingly well now.
Reid does all she can to keep them comfortable. Now, she is working on refurbishing a 17,000-square foot building that was given to the organization, and she needs donations to help! Find out how to donate here!
