Stumper, a dachshund, lost his left front leg at the second joint during birth. This photo was taken after the dog got an artificial leg. Stumper eventually moved from Milwaukee to Seattle.
The dog’s original owner figured the animal would have to be put to sleep, but east side resident Harriet Lewandowski took pity on the dog.
“I felt so sorry for the little thing that I asked for it,” she said. She found someone who fitted Stumper with a lightweight prosthetic wooden leg, which attached to the pup with a leather harness, to allow the little doxie to get used to it.
The saga of Stumper continued three days later, and after a little practic, Stumper was finally running on all four limbs, as you can see in the photo. The story of Stumper ended up on Journal’s front page! Incredible!
