Meet Boomer, an adorable labrador pup who’s lived most of his life saving people from explosion. Boomer was just 2 years old when he found his passion to life, but now it’s time for him to retire.
Boomer and his handler Virginia Tech Police Officer Larry Wooddell have been together since 2008. When the two met, they instantly made a connection, Boomer was then jut 2 years old. Boomer received 13 weeks of intensive training through the Virginia State Police and passed with flying colors. He was certified as the university’s (and the region’s) first explosives detection K9.
Boomer can identify 25 odors – all the compounds that make up thousands of different explosives. Wooddell’s supervisor, Sgt. James McClain said, “It’s amazing to see how seamlessly they work together. Boomer seems to sense and know what needs to be done without Larry even speaking or looking at him.”
According to the original uploader on Vimeo, “Boomer will retire April 1 with his handler, Virginia Tech Police Officer Larry Wooddell, who has been with the department since 1994. Wooddell waited a year to retire so the pair could leave the force together. Boomer will officially become a member of Wooddell’s family in retirement.” Take a look at this video and don’t forget to like and share this post with your friends too 🙂
