Wally is a water-loving dog. Once he goes in, he never wants to come out.
One hot summer day, Lauren Lynde and her husband took their Golden Retriever, Wally, to one of the islands in Hickory Hill Lakes in Lunenburg, Massachusetts.
Wally was excited at this chance to cool off, but something exciting was about to happen.
A day by the water usually involves Wally chasing sticks and balls, or swimming around in circles in his little shark life vest. But today, Wall noticed something bobbing nearby. It appeared to be just a large stick, but Wally went over to investigate. Soon after, his mom saw the object hop on his back. It was a woodchuck.
His parents were pretty surprised at this interaction. Wally had turned into a life raft for this woodchuck and started swimming back to shore. He even looked over his shoulder a couple of times and kept on swimming. Wally has always been a friendly dog, and he’s kind to animals and little kids. He also loves giving little kisses. Look at Wally and the woodchuck go:
When Wally arrived at the shore, the woodchuck hopped off and thanked Wally for the ride. They both looked at each other then touched snouts. It was the most adorable thing. Wally returned to swimming and the woodchuck went about its day. What’s interesting is that woodchucks are usually shy, but Wally is a gentle dog and didn’t scare him. Hopefully these friends get a chance to meet again soon, and Wally can give it another lift!
