Krysten Harper wanted to adopt an extra special dog as her first pet. But instead of looking for the cutest or the most intelligent one, she searched for one with special needs.
Krysten combed the internet with help from her mom and sister in search of the perfect pup. One day, her sister found Little Buddy on Pet Finder, and after seeing his picture, Krysten knew that he was her dog.
"He was listed as a blind and deaf double merle, and none of us knew what a double merle was, but I saw his picture […] with one little ear up and one ear down floppy, and he had his tongue hanging out of his mouth," Krysten recalls.
The first few months after Krysten took Little Buddy into her one-bedroom apartment were tough as the pup was anxious. But as time passed, he adjusted to Krysten's structured work-from-home lifestyle and started enjoying himself.
When Krysten moved out to a house, she got the backyard fenced in for Little Buddy's safety. Soon she decided it was time to welcome another special needs dog, and this time, she found a blind and deaf puppy named Aster Rose that looked like how she imagined Little Buddy was as a pup. Today, Little Buddy, Aster Rose, and Krysten are one big happy family with two cats, Teddy and Goose.
