Dimitra Andrenou moved to Larnaca, Cyprus from England to aid the business of her husband, Paul Kofteros. She’d had to quit her bank manager job to make this change, and now she planned to open a dog hotel to earn an income.
But then Dimitra noticed that there were stray dogs everywhere in Cyprus, often living in the most deplorable conditions. Many were abandoned, emaciated, and terrified.
At first, she just took them to shelters and then fostered a few, but then she decided it wasn’t enough. So she dropped her admin work that she did for her husband and opened Doggie Warriors Rescue Sanctuary.
Both Dimitra and Paul poured all their savings into helping the shelter get off the ground – with Paul adding even more support to prevent their home from getting filled with stray dogs.
Their two kids, aged 6 and 5, also volunteered to help the dogs when they had free time. So it’s become a family business! Since opening in January, Doggie Warriors Rescue Sanctuary has helped 52 dogs find their forever loving homes.
Dimitra, meanwhile, is a totally different person than she was before. She’s gone from always looking neat and fashionable to being covered in mess all day – but she couldn’t be happier!
Dimitra’s organization relies on donations. You can donate here!
