Dog Insurance: Is It Worth It?

Dog Insurance: Is It Worth It?

You’ve probably heard of dog insurance. There are several companies out there offering dog insurance and I’ve received a lot of questions about pet insurance and if it’s cost-effective – especially for a multi dog insurance plan.

Do You Really Need It?

On one hand, you may get lucky and your dog won’t have any accidents or develop any medical problems and your vet bills will be minimal. But far more often, things happen. Dogs get into things, get injured, or develop health problems as they age – just like people do and their health care isn’t cheap. The concern I have always struggled with is I never want to be in a situation where I can’t afford to treat my fur kids when something comes up.

What’s A Good Dog Insurance Plan?

Personally, I have a multi dog insurance plan with Pet Plan. I got it for both my dogs immediately after adopting them. I like that you can choose how much coverage you want and between the two of my dogs, it has paid off tenfold. From emergency room visits for my accident-prone 5 year old to cardiologist appointments for a genetic heart condition my 7 year old developed, medical care can get expensive. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by Pet Plan’s customer service and easy claim submissions too. I’m sure there are other good insurance companies out there too, but I can only personally recommend Pet Plan since I’ve had them for so long. If you’re interested in a plan, I’ve set it up so you can get a 10% discount when you go here.

The Bottom Line

Whether you have an older dog or a younger dog, I would recommend at least looking into getting a pet insurance plan. You can choose just how much coverage you want and some plans even cover the cost of boarding or flyers if your dog gets lost. For me, just having the piece of mind to know my fur kids will be taken care of makes it worth it but the plans have come in handy quite a bit financially too.
