Is Fish Oil Supplement Good For Dogs?

Supplements are often discussed with a mixture of optimism and skepticism. Studies certainly suggest that they can help improve a number of conditions.

Omega 3 (and other fatty acid) supplements are considered to be great ones to reduce inflammation and the symptoms of joint disease – but does this work for dogs? Here are some thoughts!

Many studies have proven that deep sea fish oil and reduce oxidative stress in pups, and may even reduce the symptoms of kidney problems and osteoarthritis. Some suggest that fatty acids can even benefit moods and reduce changes that come with aging!

2. …if you use the right products

Most supplements designed for humans don’t work well for pups, even if they seem to be pretty safe. They all come with their own risks, so make sure to talk to your vet about them. Only pick supplements that are meant to be used with pups, and read labels carefully!

3. They’re easy to administer

You can easily find a version of these supplements that is easy to give to your pup. Chews, oils, and tablets are all available!

4. Practice moderation

No single product is perfect, and studies have shown that there are risks to omega 3 fatty acid supplements. Some of these risks include a change in blood clotting, gastrointestinal issues, and changes in the immune system. So administer these supplements according to your vet’s advice and always in moderation!
