Here Are The Common Causes Of Dog Poisoning You Should Know About

Pups are curious creatures, and sometimes they get their paws on things that pose dangers to them.

Even if you try your best to keep your fur ball from getting into cupboards and cabinets that hold substances harmful to him, there’s always a chance that something has been missed somewhere. Here are the five most common causes of pup poisoning.

1. Human Food

Many times, pup parents might feed their fur balls human foods without realizing that they may be harmful. Some common forms of dangerous ones are:

i. Chocolate
ii. Alcohol
iii. Avocados
iv. Grapes and raisins
v. Macadamia nuts
vi. Xylitol, an artificial sweetener

Even if you crossed all these off the list, it’s always safer to offer your pup treats made for fur balls instead of human goodies.

2. Human Medicine

Although these medications might be great for pup Mommies and Daddies, they’re far less good for fur balls. Antidepressants, pain medications, and blood pressure related medicines are all harmful to pups. So are most, if not all, over-the-counter medications – that includes ibuprofen, Advil, Tylenol, and Aleve. Even fish oil supplements are bad for pups! Make sure all your meds are stashed away in a cupboard, safe from curious pup noses!

3. Plants

While greenery can spruce up a home, here’s a list of those to avoid if you have a pup:

i. Daffodils
ii. Azaleas
iii. Tulips
iv. Rhododendrons
v. Sago palms

This list is very far from complete, though! So before purchasing a house or yard plant, do some research first!

4. Insecticides and rodenticides

This might go without saying, but products designed to kill insects and other pests are often poisonous to fur balls. Make sure your pup doesn’t lick at areas covered with it, and don’t let them eat pests that have been poisoned!

5. Household products

Generally, no one should consume household products that contain chemicals like these, so this should go without saying, too. Keep your pup away from cleaners, lawn and garden products, and antifreeze – which tastes sweet but is deadly!

Those were some items that are poisonous or dangerous to pups. Be sure to give this article a thumbs up and share it around so that other pup parents are aware of them!
