You’ve probably seen and heard a lot of hero stories from golden retriever pups, but this one just raised the bar, really. This pup’s presence of mind is just too awesome to ignore!
This golden retriever mix pup’s name is Iain and for many he is now a hero for he saved not one, but two lives. This is the story of a 53 year old Paul Whiting and his grandson Leon, a six year old who was staying the night with his grandparents, a boy who was fast asleep.
Iain’s sense of smell suddenly grew stronger and he immediately started barking. Since Paul’s wife wasn’t at home, he knew that his pup’s unusual barking meant something so he followed the golden retriever only to be confronted with horror.

When Paul went downstairs he could smell a wave of strong fumes. He said, “I went downstairs, opened the kitchen door and got the full whack of the fumes. Instantly my eyes were burning and my nose and throat started feeling sore, I couldn’t breathe.” The toxic fumes were coming from the faulty compressor on their fridge.
Paul managed to open the windows and then went to check on Leon, who was sound asleep. As soon as Paul’s wife Barbara returned, the fumes triggered an asthma attack in her. Paul and his wife went to the A&E and the University Hospital of North Tees in Stockton for a checkup.
